A native of Lenoir, North Carolina, Dr. Maynard holds multiple degrees from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy at Chapel Hill including a Master of Science degree with a major in biopharmaceutics and a minor in biochemistry. Her thesis topic was "A Pharmacokinetic Model of Creatinine." After working as an instructor in "Pharmaceutical Preparations" classes at the School of Pharmacy, Dr. Maynard went on to receive her Doctor of Philosophy degree with a major in biochemistry from UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Maynard joined Celligent Diagnostics and Carolinas Pathology Group in 1978. She currently serves as Technical Director of Chemistry, Toxicology and Blood Gases. She is the Analytical Consultant for the North Carolina Poison Center and has authored a chapter on "Drugs and Toxins: Therapeutic and Toxic Levels" in Emergency Toxicology, published by W.B. Saunders in 2002. She frequently speaks at national and international conferences in the areas of therapeutic drug monitoring and analysis, immunosupressants in transplantation, toxicology, prostaglandin metabolism in pre-eclampsia and development of gas chromatography mass spectrometry measurement of prostaglandin.
