Dr. Block grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and is a graduate of the University of Illinois Medical School. After completing residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Missouri, Dr. Block completed a fellowship in hematopathology at Carolinas Medical Center under the direction of Drs. Banks and Lipford. He is board certified in clinical pathology, anatomic pathology and hematopathology.
Dr. Block joined Carolinas Pathology Group and Celligent Diagnostics in 2000. He serves as Chief of Pathology at Carolinas Medical Center-University Hospital. In addition to acting as a member of the group's IT committee, he is the chairman of the quality assurance committee for Carolinas Pathology Group. Dr. Block also serves on numerous committees within Carolinas HealthCare System. His practice includes general surgical pathology and subspecialization in hematopathology and coagulation disorders.
