Dr. Burks grew up in Anderson, SC. He graduated from Davidson College in Davidson, NC with a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-medicine. Dr. Burks is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina and completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at George Washington University Medical Center where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Burks completed a fellowship in molecular diagnostics at George Washington, as well as a two year fellowship in gynecologic and obstetric pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and has authored numerous papers on topics related to the genitourinary system and gynecologic pathology. For six years he served on the pathology faculty at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Dr. Burks is a member of the International Society of Gynecologic Pathologists and the International Society of Urologic Pathology. He joined Carolinas Pathology Group and Celligent Diagnostics in 2006.
