Raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Dr. Sexton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University. He is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina where he also completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology. He went on to train in dermatopathology and is board certified in these specialties. In 1987, Dr. Sexton was named Assistant Professor and Director of Dermatopathology at Penn State College of Medicine. He became Associate Professor and Director of Dermatopathology at the University of Florida in 1990. During his academic career, Dr. Sexton was the principal or secondary author on numerous articles on dermatopathology and a nationwide presenter to pathologists, dermatologists and dermatopathologists. Dr. Sexton joined Carolinas Pathology Group and Pathology Associates Services in 1992. In 1993, he became Medical Director of Pathology Associates Services, now Celligent Diagnostics, LLC. In addition to his responsibilities as director, Dr. Sexton maintains a busy consultation practice in dermatopathology for physicians and specialists nationwide. Under his direction, Celligent Diagnostics has experienced dramatic growth and has been involved in the implementation of the CoPath and Gajema computer system for efficient tracking of patient specimens and results, as well as the Atlas LabWorks electronic specimen ordering and reporting system.
