Dr. Smith is a native of Durham, NC and received a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, serving as Co-Chief Resident in Pathology. Dr. Smith is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, and has subspecialty certification in hematopathology. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the College of American Pathologists and the International Society of Hemostasis and Thrombosis. Dr. Smith joined Carolinas Pathology Group and Celligent Diagnostics in September 2006. He serves as Medical Director of Laboratories at Anson Community Hospital in Wadesboro, and provides pathology services at CMC-Union in Monroe, NC. His areas of special interest include hematopathology and gastrointestinal pathology.
