Dr. Wren is a native of Greenwood, SC with B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Clemson University. He held positions, including Group Leader in Process Control and Development, at Hoechst Fibers in Spartanburg, SC from 1970 until 1975 prior to entering Medical School at the Medical University of South Carolina. During medical school, he conducted basic research in the Nephrology Department on kidney dialysis with several papers published. After graduating from MUSC, he continued his residency in Pathology at MUSC where he was Chief Resident in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Wren also was Assistant Medical Examiner of Charleston County from 1980 until 1982 while in residency and participated in Forensic Pathology as resident pathologist on weekends under supervision of the Forensic Pathology Department. Dr. Wren is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He joined Spartanburg Pathology Associates (later Spartanburg Pathology Consultants) in October 1982. Dr. Wren has been past President of SPC from 2000 until merger with Carolinas Pathology Group in January 2008 and is currently Laboratory Medical Director at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. He has interests in Forensic Pathology and Chemical Pathology.
